Call Of Duty: Warzone Cracks Down On Cheaters With Two-Factor Authentication

In any game, there will always be players who’ll try to get ahead using any means necessary including cheating. Since Call of Duty: Warzone launched more than two months ago, the battle royale shooter’s PC version has become rife with hackers and cheaters. It’s gotten so bad that most console players have decided to just opt-out of crossplay. Developer Infinity Ward, however, says they’ve been trying to keep the game cheater-free since Day 1 and have permabanned 70,000 players worldwide since the game’s release.

“There’s no place for cheating in games. Warzone has zero tolerance for cheaters. [. . .] We take all forms of cheating very seriously, maintaining a level and fair playing field for everyone is among our highest priorities. This is an area we have been working on heavily, but it isn’t always something we discuss publicly.”

One of the more interesting methods that the studio used is to force suspected cheaters to play with each other. The developers have also recently implemented two-factor SMS authentication to prevent banned players from simply creating a new account. “We recognize that there’s no single solution for combating cheaters, it’s a constant enforcement every day, 24/7,” says Infinity Ward. “Rest assured, we’re committed to ensuring a fun and fair experience for everyone.”

Hopefully, these measures will be enough to deter players from breaking the rules and ruining the game for other players. Personally, I'd love to watch one of these cheater-exclusive matches just to see how it plays out.
