Cosmic League To Shut Down On April 12th, Mobile RPG CosmicBreak Adventures Has Launched

Further proving that it takes more than just scantily clad anime girls to be successful in the West, CyberStep announced today that its anime-styled competitive third-person shooter, Cosmic League, will be shutting down on April 12th. The game is the sequel to CosmicBreak, a game that is still running here in the West and will not be shutting down alongside its successor on April 12th.

We played Cosmic League for Sunday Funday some time ago and, if I remember correctly, the game didn't exactly resonate with me. I seem to remember the game feeling as if it was trying to mimic the Gundam VS franchise in some way, but with significantly different mechanics. I also remember there being an odd sort of hybrid free aiming/lock-on system of targeting opponents that made it unclear at times when you were actually able to attack. On top of that, the game could feel rather clunky at times. I'm not entirely surprised that it didn't catch on.

That being said, the Japanese version, known as CosmicBreak 2, seems to be unaffected at this time.

We may be losing Cosmic League, but don't worry. CyberStep made another announcement today that I am absolutely sure will cheer you up. On the very same day that the company announced the closure of Cosmic League, it also announced that a mobile game based on the CosmicBreak franchise, CosmicBreak Adventures, has launched in the West. CosmicBreak Adventures is a "fully voiced RPG with tactical real-time elements." In other words, it's another stage-based mobile hero collector that makes use of a semi-automatic combat system.

You can get a look at CosmicBreak Adventures in the video embedded below. Should you want to try it out, you can download it now via the App Store or Google Play.

Thanks to Yuen for the tip about Cosmic League.
