Dropzone Gets Team 3v3 Mode, Goes Free-To-Play On April 12th

Gameforge and Sparkypants Studios announced today that their RTS/MOBA-hybrid Dropzone has received "the number one community-requested feature": Team 3v3. This new mode "streamlines gameplay for new players and anyone seeking a more team-based experience." The game also received a new "Ranked Draft 1v1" mode for the game's more competitive players.

Additionally, it was announced today that Dropzone will be going free-to-play on April 12th, effectively dropping the initial fee for all users. As it is going free-to-play in a week, both of the game's Early Access packs will be on sale April 11th. The Squad Edition is 50% off, bringing it down to $9.99, whereas the Commander Edition is 55% off, bringing it down to $17.99. The Commander Edition DLC upgrade is currently 30% off, bringing it down to $14.00. As of this writing, the discounts have not yet gone live, but I imagine they will around 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT, Steam's normal update time.

Sparkypants Studios President Jason Coleman had the following to say about the announcement.

Debuting on Steam has been a tremendous experience for the development team, giving us the chance to engage directly with our player community and incorporate their feedback into new modes and features. Ever since the game’s initial concept design, Dropzone was built to be a free-to-play game, and we’ve worked with publisher Gameforge over the past year to create a game that’s balanced and accessible for a wide range of gamers.

Gameforge North America Publishing and Marketing Director Christopher Sturr also weighed in.

We’ve been blown away by the Sparkypants team’s dedication to refining their game with player feedback, and we can’t wait to share it with a huge new audience of RTS and MOBA fans around the world. Dropzone is one of the most polished, feature-rich, content-filled and well-balanced F2P games we’ve seen in Early Access, and the move to free-to-play will bolster the community even further.

You can find more information about Dropzone on the Steam store page.
