Dual Universe To Add IP Protection For Constructs And Blueprints, Shows Off Player-Made Voxel Structures

dual universe voxel tech bannerIn Dual Universe, players are able to design their own ships and create blueprints that can be used by other people. And, since it’s easy to just take a blueprint, slightly alter it, and call it your own; Novaquark will be introducing two new features in the next patch to help protect the intellectual property of the original designers and prevent unauthorized duplication of blueprints.

The Construct Intellectual Property Protection feature will prevent other players from creating a blueprint of a construct and/or copying voxels from one construct to another except for the original designers. The Blueprint Duplication feature will also allow the original designer to create a master blueprint, or Core Blueprint, of a construct which can then be used to create DRM-protected copies that can be used to create a limited number of constructs. The DRM protection can also be removed should the original designer choose to do so.

“The objective of this feature is quite simple: allow a player to protect their creations when they distribute them in game (whether it is by selling them or trading them). We want to make sure that no unauthorized player will access the intellectual property content of a construct they did not create themselves,” explained the devs on the official forums.

Meanwhile, the developers have dropped a new trailer showing off the game’s player-build voxel structures. Check it out after the jump.
