ZeniMax Online Studios is taking steps to make sure that the North American megaserver for Elder Scrolls Online doesn’t experience another hardware failure like it did back in March. The team announced that they’ll be upgrading the megaserver’s 2012-era hardware and will be swapping out all the old parts for new ones during today’s scheduled maintenance.

The upgrade was initially scheduled for last year but was postponed due to the global hardware shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The public test server had already been upgraded a few weeks ago prior to the Update 34 PTS release and the team reports that everything is working smoothly. While the upgrade won’t result in any noticeable performance improvements for NA players, it will result in a more reliable service overall and less unplanned maintenance downtimes.

The EU datacenters will also be getting the same treatment although a timeline has yet to be set as sourcing and ordering server hardware still takes a long time. Details can be found on the Elder Scrolls Online official forums.
