elder scrolls online fort greymoor bannerLast week, ZeniMax Online Studios brought the press back to Skyrim with an exclusive hands-on preview of Greymoor, the next chapter in The Elder Scrolls Online and the second installment in the year-long Dark Heart of Skyrim storyline. Greymoor will be launching in just a few months and the developers are hard at work fleshing it out from the safety of their own homes.

The new chapter opens up the frigid northern and western areas of Skyrim and features locations that will be familiar to anyone who has played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The playable demo gives players their first look at these iconic locations along with the new Antiquities System and changes to the Vampire Skill Tree.

The new Antiquities System encourages players to explore Tamriel and learn about its lore through treasure hunts and various puzzles and mini-games. Successfully locating these hidden antiquities will reward players with mount pieces, house items, and epic gear.

“Travel across Tamriel to recover lost artifacts with the new Antiquities System. Scry the location of ancient relics and excavate them to uncover Tamriel's hidden history and become a world-renowned Archaeologist!”

The Greymoor Prologue Quest is now available for free to anyone who owns the base game. Simply grab the free Quest Starter from the Crown Store and use it to start the quest. A variety of collectible rewards await those who complete it. “This perilous journey takes players into the depths of Blackreach to confront the schemes of Skyrim’s nefarious Icereach Coven, and it progresses the year-long Dark Heart of Skyrim storyline into the Greymoor Chapter,” says ZeniMax. “Players must . . . travel to the Fighter’s Guild in Daggerfall, Davon’s Watch, or Vulkhel Guard (depending on their Alliance) and speak with fan favorite Lyris Titanborn to accept the first of two quests, titled ‘The Coven Conspiracy’.”

ZeniMax will also be hosting a free-to-play event on Steam from April 1st to April 6th, and from April 1st to April 13th for non-Steam users. Interested participants will need to register on the Elder Scrolls Online official site and choose their platform.
