Elder Scrolls Online Unveils Update 40 And Its Endless Archive Repeatable Dungeon

ZeniMax Online Studios has officially unveiled the fourth and final major update for Elder Scrolls Online and its ongoing Shadow Over Morrowind narrative this year. In line with the studio’s new focus on building up existing content instead of narrative-driven releases, Update 40 will be launching without a chapter or DLC in tow, just as with Update 39.
That being said, there’s a whole lot of content to expect when the update comes out in October including a new type of repeatable content called the Endless Archive. It’s basically a never-ending dungeon that players can either take on by themselves or with a friend or Companion.
“In the Endless Archive, you must battle your way through dynamic stages and untold dangers, including monsters and boss encounters drawn from all over Nirn,” ZeniMax announced. “No two expeditions into the Archive will ever be the same, as each Stage and encounter is randomly generated. Complete four Cycles (each comp[o]sed of three Stages and a boss battle) and your fifth boss battle with be against a monster unique to the Endless Archive—thus completing an Arc!”
Once you’ve completed an Arc, you can jump back in to complete it as many times as you like, with the difficulty gradually increasing with each successful Arc run. Rewards will also get better over time and will include goodies not found anywhere else in the game, including exclusive cosmetics, mounts, collectibles, and class sets, as well as a new currency that players will be able to use to purchase permanent buffs and other rewards.
Update 40 is set to arrive on October 30th. Players can also expect the return of various events throughout the remainder of the year. The Witches Festival will be returning in October and the Gates of Oblivion Celebration in November, with the New Life Festival closing out the year in December.
