Enshrouded is a new co-op survival game that’s set to hit Steam early access later this year. It’s an open-world survival RPG for 1-16 players that promises to be the lovechild of Valheim and Zelda, with a dash of Minecraft. The game’s developer, Keen Games, describes it as a cross between Valheim and Zelda and promises a massive open world to explore with light survival mechanics and food buffs similar to those in the popular Viking survival game.

The games official reveal trailer begins in a forest, with an adventurer wearing burlap pants, hunting with a wooden bow, and chopping down a tree. As night falls, they cook meat over a campfire, but things quickly escalate when fully armored characters wielding magic staves, swords, shields, and throwable explosives appear to battle creepy monsters and various boss types. The trailer also shows several fun-looking traversal options, such as a grappling hook to swing through ruins and a leathery wingsuit to glide through the fog.

The Enshrouded world isn’t procedurally generated like Valheims though; it’s one big crafted world similar to those found in Breath of the Wild or Skyrim. The game’s story revolves around a deadly fog that’s consumed the world, which players must fight against. The only safe areas are mountaintops and higher locations that rise from the shroud like islands. Players must explore further into the world by descending into the lower regions, where they can only survive for a limited time before needing to resurface back above the fog.

Above the fog, players will be able to hunt, gather resources, and build a home. They’ll be able to build block-by-block or use premade templates and blueprints to construct their dwellings, and even dig caves and caverns through the terrain. NPCs can be found and brought back to the player’s base, where they can teach long-lost crafting recipes.

Enshrouded offers an open-ended skill tree that allows players to specialize in different styles of play, with skills such as Ambush, which does more damage when attacking an unaware creature, and Blink, which is a teleport-like dodging ability. The game’s playable classes include the mainstays of traditional RPGs, including rogues, warriors, and wizards. Players, however, will not be forced to choose a specific class at the start of the game.

Enshrouded promises to offer a big open world, base-building, and co-op PvE adventures that allow players to head out into a dangerous world or spend time quietly tinkering around in their homes. The game world is voxel-based, which means that everything, including the terrain, buildings, and caves, can be shaped with creative freedom like Minecraft, but with a more immersive and more grown-up look.

Overall, Enshrouded looks like a promising addition to the survival RPG genre, with plenty of fun features and mechanics to keep players entertained. The game’s trailer showcases impressive graphics and exciting gameplay, and the combination of Valheim, Zelda, and Minecraft elements creates a unique and intriguing experience. Players can look forward to exploring the Enshrouded world and building their homes and kingdoms when the game enters Steam early access later this year.
