Everything We Know About Divergence Online's Early Access Phase

Details on Divergence Online's Early Access phase are a bit hard to come by. The business model is confusing and it's unclear exactly how functional the game is without trying it. Even then, first impressions won't get you very far, as the game is fairly complex, aiming to recreate pre-CU, pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies and then build on it. I've talked with the developers a little bit and scoured the forums for information. Here is everything I have been able to discover about the game's current state.

  • The current Early Access package on Steam is equivalent to the Gold edition of the game that was previously on sale on their website. The details have been removed along with the tier but, if I recall correctly, it includes access to all human subspecies, synthetics, a single character slot, and a few extras.
  • The Artisan profession—including resource gathering, crafting, and building—is in and working.
  • The third-person shooter style combat is in, but in limited form and needs to be built upon.
  • There is an optional $10 per month subscription that will give you access to the Ferrocrete tool and two extra character slots.
  • The Ferrocrete tool allows exacting precision over terraforming and building. If you don't use it, you can only place prefabs.
  • The Ennie race costs $150 via the official website. If you are planning on purchasing it, it should come with a Steam key, meaning you can save yourself the Early Access buy-in fee by purchasing only the Ennie package. According to the developers, "Ennies are very sneaky, they can blend easily in the natural landscape and they'll be able to steal things. But they're also tiny and have low strength (so they won't be able to instantly steal stuff and carry however much on them - there will be movement penalties). It's also likely they'll be distrusted by other players because of the nature of their endeavours."
  • The Veli Verrators and Vindicators cost $250 via the official website and should also come with a Steam key. For the time being, they will respawn. However, once the game launches, if your Veli is killed, it will die permanently and you will not be able to create another. There are a limited number of Veli packages available and the developers estimate they will be sold out in the next few months based on the rate they are currently selling at.
  • The D-Tannix are a "purely psychic species." Psychic combat is not complete yet, therefore they are not available yet.
  • No wipes are currently planned between now and launch.
  • The current business model will likely remain as it is when the game launches in full.

This is all of the useful information I have managed to collect so far. Hopefully it will help you decide whether or not you want to buy into the Early Access phase!
