Divergence Online Launches On Steam Early Access

Following a week-long snafu with Valve and the attempted launch, Divergence Online has officially launched on Steam Early Access. The self-proclaimed "SWG 2.0" launched late last night for $39.99, temporarily discounted to $29.99 for the week of release. According to a Steam Community post, they had the "Best. Launch. Ever." and the servers are running well, but currently, reviews on Steam are Mixed.

With the Early Access launch, they hit the ground running, promising 3-8 patches in the first 24 hours. In the near future, they plan to "[activate] all available assets from their standby state." Additionally, full tutorials, fixes for creature AI, fleshed out melee combat, more synthetic chassis and more are planned.

Some users have expressed concerns over the current business model. Paying extra by contributing on the official website will allow you to unlock two new races, a combat chassis for synthetics, and several other perks, depending on the contribution. In terms of race selection, players who only pay the base Early Access cost will only have access to the various subspecies of Humans and Synthetics. I've reached out for confirmation about the business model and will update with details when I hear back.

Will you be purchasing Divergence? It feels like I've been watching the game for the better part of a decade and I am personally eager to see what the game is like now that it is playable.
