Fan-Made Guild Wars 2 CCG Rolls Out Its First Expansion

Remember that fan-made Guild Wars 2 CCG game we told you about back in March? Well, it seems that ArenaNet is letting Guild Wars 2: Heroes of the Mist slide because the unofficial CCG, which we all thought would be shut down any moment, is now getting its first ever expansion called Prophecies. Creator Luke Dowding writes in a recent blog post:

“The expansion comes packed with over 60 new cards all based upon the memorable characters from the original Guild Wars 1 game Prophecies. The expansion also comes with a new ability as well as a huge balance overhaul to all existing cards which in testing has made the game a lot more fun and playable.

When I made the card game a few months back I knew I wanted to release expansions for the game, its a great way to bring more life into the game and the community. Prophecies was my first choice because its the foundation in which the Guild Wars universe was built. I personally played Guild Wars 1 for several thousand hours and have very fond memories of the game. Add Prophecies as the first expansion is also a great way to bring back serious nostalgia and remember those key characters from the original game from over 12 years ago.”

Aside from introducing a brand new set of cards to the mix, which include 3 Legendary Cards, 13 Exotic Cards, and a bunch of basic cards, the expansion will also make everything slightly weaker with the goal of making matches last a little bit longer and make the game more balanced. In addition, the expansion will also implement the new Stealth ability which will allow specific cards to remain hidden until they attack. You can play the game through the Tabletop Simulator on Steam or print the cards out for a more classic feel.

Meanwhile, the official game recently rolled out a number of PvP updates a few weeks ago which included automated tournaments and an exclusive game lobby for the cream of the crop. Watch the developers talk about these updates in the video below.
