Fan Pays Over $60,000 For Counter Strike Skin

One of the costliest digital goods transactions to date took place earlier this week when a user on OPSkins purchased a CSGO gun skin called 'Dragon Lore' for $61,052.63

The item's value comes from a variety of factors that conspired to create a truly unique digital asset. First, the Dragon Lore is the rarest item obtainable from the Cobblestone Package lootcrate which was only obtainable during the Krakow Major. Just that crate itself currently fetches $31.

Second, skins from lootcrates dropped by spectating Majors and other large tournaments come autographed by one of the players participating in that event. This particular Dragon Lore bears the signature of Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham, whose team (Cloud9) became the first American squad to win a Valve sponsored Counter Strike Global Offensive event.

Third, both skins and the autographed stickers that come attached to them have random wear values in CS:GO. Most items are 'Battle Worn' and come with scuffs and faded graphics. The $61k skin in question happened to roll with the condition 'Factory New.' The four autograph stickers also got the lucky rolls of 'Unscratched', and thus show no scuffs or fading.

The seller of the skin, an active collector and Counter Strike player called 'Drone', originally paid $35,000 for the item. Congratulations are in order to Mr. Drone for his profitable venture.
