Honkai Star Rail 2.2

HoYoverse announced today the upcoming release of version 2.2 for their hit sci-fi fantasy mobile game Honkai: Star Rail's titled titled "Then Wake to Weep". Version 2.2 is set to launch on May 8, 2024 and marks a pivotal point as the adventure in Penacony reaches its climax. Here’s a brief overview of the key features and additions:

Version 2.2 Trailer - "Then Wake to Weep" | Honkai: Star Rail

New Characters:

  • Robin: A 5-star character, Robin is a Halovian songstress from Penacony, known for her captivating performances that provide buffs and allow reactivation with enhanced effects for all allies during her ultimate ability.
  • Boothill: Also a 5-star addition, Boothill is a cyborg cowboy and Galaxy Ranger. His combat style features duels where he and his opponent increase damage taken from each other. His ultimate inflicts physical weakness and delays the enemy's actions.

Story and Exploration:

  • Dreamflux Reef Introduction: Players will explore this new dreamscape, contrasting sharply with earlier environments, where uncovering The Family's hidden secrets requires specific methods and resources.
  • Story Advancement: The main narrative continues, revealing the lurking threats beneath The Family’s facade of safety.

Events and Performances:

  • Charmony Festival Participation: Players engage in Festivity Auditions sponsored by SoulGlad™, aiming to win the Festive Superstar title.
  • Performance at Penacony Grand Theater: The festival’s highlight will be Robin’s performance, drawing thousands to the grand theater.

Special Features:

  • Character Re-acquisition: The update offers a chance to recruit previously limited characters Topaz & Numby and Master Diviner Fu Xuan for new challenges.
  • First Anniversary Concert: A live stream concert on May 1, 2024, at 7:05 p.m. (UTC+8) will celebrate the game's first year, featuring music from the game on Honkai: Star Rail's official YouTube Channel.

While Honkai: Star Rail was designed as a mobile gacha game, it does have a PC client and like Hoyoverse's previous game, Genshin Impact, the production value (visuals, music, animations, etc) are top notch. Unfortunately it's almost entirely a single player experience, but it's still worth checking out for anyone looking for a JRPG like experience.
