We’re less than a week away from the release of Final Fantasy XIV’s highly-awaited Endwalker expansion, and as with most major launches expect to see a flood of players descend on the MMORPG come launch day. While Square Enix says that they’ve done everything they can to reduce the impact of the inevitable population explosion, the studio still warns players to expect congestion and long queue times from Early Access right up to full release and maybe even beyond.

“Since the launch of a new expansion is when a large number of players will be playing for extended periods of time, we are expecting far more simultaneous logins compared to usual. Furthermore, following a dramatic increase in the player base in all regions since this summer, we are currently experiencing record numbers of active users, and therefore are expecting a number of logins that is yet to be seen since the launch of FFXIV.”

Unfortunately, adding new Worlds will be out of the question due to the current shortage of semiconductors. But the team says that they’ve implemented every other measure available to them, including replacing matching servers with more powerful ones, raising the simultaneous login limit, increasing processing speeds, and optimizing server processes.

“We will further enhance our monitoring of the situation to allow for as many players as possible to log in,” said Square Enix. “We ask for your understanding and cooperation regarding this matter.”

Endwalker officially launches on December 7th with an Early Access period starting on December 3rd for those who pre-ordered the game. In preparation for the expansion’s release and the coming end of the current narrative, the team looks back at the early days of Final Fantasy XIV by re-releasing the
