While we here in the West were celebrating Christmas over the weekend, Final Fantasy's Fan Fest was happening in Japan. With the Final Fantasy XIV expansion launching later this summer, these were the biggest tidbits of information that came out at Fan Fest Japan:

  • June 20th, 2017 is the tentative release date for the Stormblood expansion for Final Fantasy XIV.
  • Red Mage will be introduced with the expansion, but can be unlocked without going into the Heavensward area. Red Mages are rapier wielding magic users (Ranged DPS class)
  • Red Mages start at level 50 and don't need any prerequisite class to unlock (Just like the Dark Knight).
  • New water zones introduced with swimming and diving.
  • New 8 and 24 man high end raids.
  • A new beast tribe, the Ananta.

One of the biggest updates with the Stormblood expansion is the increased level cap from 60 to 70, but this isn't anything new as this was revealed during the Las Vegas Fan Festival in October. I've personally been playing quite a bit of Final Fantasy XIV, so I'm looking forward to this  expansion!
