Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.5: Death Unto Dawn Is Now Live Alongside PS5 Beta Test

It’s patch day in Final Fantasy XIV and the highly-awaited Patch 5.5 is now live on PC and PlayStation 4. Patch 5.5: Death Unto Dawn is the final major patch in the critically-acclaimed Shadowbringers expansion and will set the stage for this fall’s Endwalker expansion.
“The Scions have finally succeeded in discovering a cure for tempering, which should prove instrumental in allowing the Eorzean Alliance and the land's beast tribes to settle their differences. Prospects of peace may soon fall to ruin, however, as Fandaniel and the Telophoroi scheme to recreate the Final Days, and ominous towers rise in all corners of the realm. With the servants of chaos amassing at every turn, will the Scions uncover their plot before it is too late?”
Part 1 of the patch introduces new Main Story Quests, the new Paglth’an dungeon, a new YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse Alliance Raid, new side quests, a new Trial, and a whole lot more. The massive patch notes offers a full rundown of what’s new if you want to dive into the details.
Death Unto Dawn’s release also marks the start of the Playstation 5 beta test. The test will be open to all players who already own the game on the PS4, assuming of course that you’re one of the lucky few who managed to buy Sony’s next-gen console. The beta will also be open to new Final Fantasy XIV players on the PS5 through the free trial program. Players who manage to get into the beta test can expect a significant improvement in loading times and framerate along with full 4K resolution support, 3D audio, DualSense haptic feedback, and new trophies.
