Fractured Online Is Back In Closed Development Due To Third-Party Platform Issues

Earlier this week, Fractured Online mysteriously disappeared from Gamigo’s website following another round of layoffs at the studio and the transfer of multiple MMOs to different publishers. Dynamight Studios sheds light on the matter with a statement saying that it’s facing troubles with its third-party backend platform that manages the game servers.

The team is now transitioning to a new platform which, unfortunately, required the game to be taken offline indefinitely and put back into closed development. “We are already at work on a new platform to replace the existing one and will be releasing a schedule for its completion in January,” said Dynamight. “Luckily, just a small portion of the dev team is engaged on this task, while everyone else just keeps working on the game as usual. This means that once we can host servers again, you are going to find plenty of additions and improvements to Fractured Online!”

These additions and improvements will include the addition of Journey System and a hybrid quest/achievement system to guide new players through the tutorial and early stages of the game. The studio says that its also working on over 200 other tasks which touch on multiple game systems and mechanics such as controls, combat, balancing, city sieges, and points of interest, as well as latency and server and client performance.

“Several of these tasks have already been completed, but we haven’t been able to release a new build of the game. This means you are going to get them all at once in the largest patch in the history of Fractured Online! As soon as the situation has stabilized, we are also going to publish a detailed development roadmap for 2023,” promised the studio.

It’s worth noting that Dynamight hasn’t outright stated that it’s ended its partnership with Gamigo although it looks like that’s the case. “I know it’s very vague,” wrote Dynamight Studios Co-founder and CEO Jacopo Gallelli on Discord. “As you can imagine, there are (legal) reasons we are being vague. Hopefully the developers of the platform will soon go public about the topic.” He, however, maintains that the situation has nothing to do with the recent layoffs at Gamigo nor was the faulty platform built for and being operated by the publisher.

Galleli also confirmed that the servers will unfortunately have to be wiped and that they’ve stopped selling the game for the time being. There have been no mention of whether the studio will be giving out refunds as of this writing. We’ll keep you posted.
