Free-To-Play Mech Shooter Figureheads Launches On PlayStation 4 In Japan

Still no word on a Western release date, but Square Enix's free-to-play third-person mech shooter Figureheads launched on PS4 last Thursday. The game has been out in Japan since July 8, 2015, but has flown fairly far under the radar here in the West.

According to Gematsu, in addition to the game's 5v5 PvP mode, the PS4 version is also launching with a new PvE mode in which players team up to fight AI opponents. Those that pre-registered for the game got an exclusive set of Xenogears items.

Those who are interested can download the PlayStation 4 version of the game here. You will need a Japanese PSN account, but registering one is simple; simply set your country of residence to Japan when signing up. That's all you have to do. I do not know if you need to use a VPN to play, but the PC version requires a VPN so I am not entirely optimistic about it. Additionally, if you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription on your Japanese PSN account, you can get a 7-day BIT Boost and 30 Gold by obtaining the free PlayStation Plus Gift Pack here.
