Over the past few weeks, ArenaNet has been giving away free Living World episodes in an effort to reel in more players and allow existing players to catch up to the current storyline in preparation for the End of Dragons expansion’s release. Unfortunately, that release date has been pushed back by at least a couple of months according to the latest update from the team.

“As expansion development has progressed and the real-world challenges of the past year and a half have changed the way we live and work, it’s become clear that we need a little more time to deliver our creative vision for Cantha,” announced ArenaNet. “As a result, we’re delaying the release of Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons from late 2021 to early 2022.”

The End of Dragons first-look livestream, however, will still push through as scheduled on July 27.

Meanwhile, former Guild Wars 2 Game Director Colin Johanson and former PvP lead Josh Davis have both returned to ArenaNet six years after they left the studio in 2016. Johanson will co-lead ArenaNet alongside John Taylor while Davis will fill the role of the newly-created Head of Live Operations position.

The newly reunited executives outlined their big plans for Guild Wars 2 in this month’s studio update, which includes World Restructuring, a.k.a. Alliances, and the highly-awaited DirectX 11 upgrade. Alliances and an opt-in beta for the DX 11 upgrade are scheduled to arrive sometime this year.

More information can be found on the Guild Wars 2 official site. Also, just in case you missed the announcement, Out of the Shadows, the first episode of Living World Season 3 is free to claim until July 6.
