Guild Wars 2 Adds Map Queues, Migrates To DX11, And Fixes Elementalist Exploit

ArenaNet rolled out a minor patch for Guild Wars 2 today that will make it easier for players to join open-world maps even though they’re already full, as long as they don’t mind the wait.

Players will now be given the option to queue up for worlds at maximum capacity provided that they already have at least one party member inside. To join the queue, all you have to do is right-click on the name of a party member that’s already inside the instance and select Join Instance.

“If that map instance is full, you will receive a new pop-up that will ask if you’d like to enter a queue for the same instance as your existing party members,” explains ArenaNet. “Accepting this pop-up will put you into a queue, which will give you the option to travel to that map instance as soon as capacity allows. Refusing the queue will result in the same behavior as before this update.”

The team does note that the feature is still in beta and that they’ll continue to monitor it for any issues and gather player feedback.

Another highlight of the update is the promised DirectX 11 migration, marking the end of an era as ArenaNet phases out DirectX 9 support.

The cherry on top is a fix for the Elementalist exploit that allowed players to turn themselves into flaming demigods capable of wiping out entire player groups on their own. Both the Weaver and Sunspot traits are now playable once again after they were disabled this past weekend.

The full patch notes can be found on the Guild Wars 2 official site if you want to dive into the details.
