Hearthstone To Add Battleground Buddies And Merc Training Grounds Mechanic In Patch 22.2
Hearthstone Heroes are getting Battlegrounds Buddies in the online CCG’s next major update – Patch 22.2. The new feature will significantly change how Battlegrounds matches are played as each hero is assigned a support unit called a Battleground Buddy to assist them in battle.
Battleground Buddies will have a meter that will fill up as players perform various actions during the match. When the meter reaches the halfway mark, players will be granted a special ability or summon that they can either use right away or save until the meter is full for a more powerful effect.
“Buddies are earned at three different rates, with those at lower Tavern Tiers being earned more quickly than those at higher Tavern Tiers,” said Blizzard Entertainment. “[. . .] There’s a limit to how much a Buddy Meter can be filled in a given round, so that no Buddy runs away with the game.”
Battlegrounds Buddies will be making their debut on January 25 alongside four new Battlegrounds Heroes and the new Training Grounds for mercenaries. The Training Grounds will allow mercenaries to gain passive experience and help boost those that aren’t getting as much time on the battlefield. Several cards will also be getting nerfed as part of Patch 22.2.
