Hi-Rez Announces Mobile Card Game SMITE Rivals

Hi-Rez, the studio behind Smite and Paladins, announced a new mobile card game at its annual convention earlier this week. Gamers and press attending the Hi-Rez Expo event had a chance to get a hands on demo of the upcoming SMITE Rivals. Rivals keeps the traditional 3-lane MOBA layout but the gameplay mechanics are drawn from Supercell's smash-hit Clash Royal.

Players create custom decks of 8 cards and play them in real-time as they are continuously reshuffled. The goal is to destroy the other player's three Phoenixes (towers) and Titan (main base.) Card types include Gods (only 1 per deck), spells, structures, and minions. While many will be quick to skewer Hi-Rez for working on yet another 'clone', SMITE Rivals does look different enough to be worth trying. The board looks far more active and that third lane really takes things to next level! Like Hearthstone and Shadowverse, SMITE Rivals will be available on both mobile and PC platforms.

Hi-Rez Studios is also working on another Smite spin-off title: Smite Tactics. No further word on that one just yet!
