In-Game Cryptocurrency Causes Mir 4 Player Explosion Despite Mostly Negative Reviews On Steam

Mir 4 player numbers continue to rise daily since the Korean-made MMORPG launched on Steam and mobile devices last week. The game is the latest entry in The Legend of Mir series of games from South Korean development studio WeMade, the same studio behind Riders of Icarus, Icarus Online, and Avalon Heroes.

Concurrent player numbers have hit an all-time peak on Steam at 22,158 players as of this writing and growing steadily by the minute despite “Mostly Negative” reviews on the platform. So why are player numbers continuing its upward trend even with poor reviews? Well, it might have something to do with the fact that players have a chance to earn cryptocurrency called DRACO by literally mining and crafting it in-game.

To earn DRACO, players must have linked the game to a Google, Apple, or Facebook account and must have reached at least level 40. They can then start mining Darksteel and collect enough of the resource to craft the associated cryptocurrency. WeMade estimates the value of DRACO at just under $3 which is a long way from the current value of Bitcoin (BTC) but it’s still something. The studio will be regularly adjusting the rate at which players can mine Darksteel and craft DRACO to maintain the currency’s value over time. They also plan to incorporate it into other games in the future.

WeMade offers an introduction to DRACO in the video below just in case you want to get in on the action.
