Indie Survival MMO Life Beyond To Introduce MMORPG-Inspired Group Roles In The Future

It’s been a while since we last heard from French indie studio DareWise Entertainment and their SpatialOS-powered sci-fi survival MMO Life Beyond. In fact, the last time we covered Life Beyond was when DareWise announced the working title for the game in November 2019.

Since then, Life Beyond has moved from pre-alpha to closed alpha testing and has seen several updates and improvements over the past two years, including a new map, improved building, and more MMORPG-like controls and UI.

In a brief dev update earlier this week, the team also revealed their plans to introduce MMORPG class roles into the game in the form of The Storm Chaser (DPS), The Logistic Guy (Crowd Control?), The Surgeon (Healer), and The Tank (ermm… Tank?).

“We have taken our inspiration for these roles from classic MMORPG games. We love how roles like healer/crowd control etc. play such a significant part in the success or failure of the group and we want to have that spirit in our gameplay,” said DareWise.

Also, instead of being forced to stick with one class forever, players will be able to easily switch between different roles by simply swapping their loadout.

“The one change we made is the amount of time and effort players have to put into perfecting their roles,” added the team. “Traditional MMOs require being on the right server with the right team and the learning curve for the role is steep. In Life Beyond your role isn’t your class but rather the gear you choose every loadout, which means you could be The Tank for a 15-minute session and then change out to a healer for the next if you so desire.”

No release date has been given for the new feature but there’s a longer blog post that talks about Roles and character design on the DareWise official site if you want to learn more. You can also check out the dev update video below for more info.
