Industry Vets Form De Facto Committee To Fight Unscrupulous Game Companies

ngcp us congressVideo game industry veterans have come together to form a new organization called the National Committee for Games Policy or NGCP. The organization’s mission is two-fold. The first, is to represent the entire gaming industry and function as a “privately-funded think tank” to help give law and policy makers the information they need to make “informed decisions”. The second, is to function as the video game industry’s first self-regulatory organization.

“As an SRO, our purpose is to protect consumers from unscrupulous video game companies by investigating and bringing legal action against those companies that have damaged the public consciousness in some way, whether mental or physical. To do this we’ve enlisted the aid of game developer’s employees as well. By establishing the first video game industry whistleblower center, we’re able to help the video game industry fight things such as withheld overtime pay.”

Members of the de facto committee include Kenneth Tran, co-founder of Incuvation Games and a member of the International Game Developers Association steering committee; Jack Wegrich, a professional indie-games community manager; Riley Worcester, an MBA tax professional, Michael Luxion, founder of Paralux Interactive; Bryan Haskell, ESL project manager; Daniel Doan, co-founder of Black Shell Media; Jonathan Perez, VP of MultiverseGames and Incuvation Games; and Tion Bruton, a games localization expert working for CIRCLE Entertainment.

Hopefully, the NGCP can work together with lawmakers like Hawaii State Representative Chris Lee in his efforts to enact laws against what he calls “predatory gaming practices.” Learn more about his thoughts on the matter in the video after the break.

Game on. Together we can stop predatory gaming practices
