LawBreakers Lead Dev Cliff Bleszinski Shows All-Out Support For Fan-Made Emulator

Developers aren’t usually fans of emulators and have, more often than not, waged legal battles to shut them down. Boss Key Productions’ Cliff Bleszinski, however, has given his stamp of approval to a group of LawBreakers fans working on an emulator revival of the now-defunct studio’s team-based first-person shooter.

Bleszinski had planned to relaunch LawBreakers himself but was legally unable to do so because Nexon still holds the rights to the game. By supporting the emulator, he apparently hopes to rekindle Nexon’s interest in the ill-fated shooter, although he might have just drawn Nexon’s attention to it for all the wrong reasons.

As for the emulator, its developers assure the community that they want nothing more than to bring the game back to life for everyone to enjoy. It’s been in development by a small group of fans since 2021 but has been kept under wraps and away from Nexon’s eyes until the team broke radio silence for a public playtest last week.

The team says that their goal is to revive LawBreakers as it was and that it definitely won’t be a remaster, nor will they be adding or changing anything from the original build. They may, however, decide to do some balancing here and there, but not until the emulator is fully up and running.

Now that the secret is out with Bleszinski showing his support, there’s no doubt that Nexon is now fully aware of its existence. Whether it decides to nip the project in the bud or allow it to grow is anyone’s guess.
