LEGO Minifigures Online To Be Shut Down On September 30th

Funcom announced earlier this month that LEGO Minifigures Online will be shutting down on September 30th. The game flew under the radar for quite some time, so we missed the news when it was originally posted to the official website.

Funcom explained in its annual report published in April that LEGO Minifigures Online had been performing below expectations by a significant margin for quite some time. The development team was moved to other projects and the license agreement Funcom made with LEGO in order to create the game would be ending in October. LEGO Minifigures Online would almost assuredly be shut down before the license agreement ended. All that was left was for Funcom to confirm it.

As part of preparations for the game's inevitable end, LEGO Minifigures Online has been removed from sale as of June 6th. In-game chat has been disabled, although the reason behind disabling it is unclear. The servers will be shut down for good on September 30th, the day before the license agreement is set to expire in October.

The original announcement is as follows.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that LEGO Minifigures Online will be closing on September 30th, 2016.

We know that many of you are still enjoying your adventures in the game, and this has been a difficult decision for us to make but unfortunately, the time has come to retire LEGO Minifigures Online.

Starting June 6th, 2016, new players will be unable to join the game and the in-game chat will be disabled. Existing players will still be able to play up until September 30th, 2016.

It is never easy saying goodbye to friends, but we will forever be thankful for the time we have spent together with you - the community - adventuring through the worlds of LEGO Minifigures Online.

From all of the LMO team: thank you for taking time to explore the game with us, helping us improve it, and for being such a great community.
