Lethal Company is a recently released co-op horror game that’s making waves on Steam as it slides into second place on the digital storefront’s global top sellers list. At just $10 and with a one-man dev team, it’s managed to beat out higher priced AAA games like PUBG, Baldur’s Gate 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and even Counter-Strike 2. It’s only been edged out by Steam Deck which technically isn’t a game.

The game drops players into the shoes of corporate peons tasked with scavenging spare parts and resources from far-off planets and moons that may or may not be inhabited by creepy creatures. Up to four players can team up to work together and explore the retro-futurist world’s seemingly abandoned moons to meet their three-day quota on resources.

Teamwork and sticking to your role in the group is an essential part of the game as players will only be able to take what they can hold down onto the surface. The game also features proximity voice chat that not only allows for easier communication and coordination, but also adds a certain level of dread and comic relief when a member of your group dies and is suddenly cut off mid-sentence.

Lethal Company launched into Steam Early Access last month and has received “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews that praise its unique mechanics and its spooky yet comical vibe.

“My friend was slowly being killed in a room and all I could do was listen to his horrified screams on the radio. Anyways, we met quota,” wrote one reviewer.

“I got beat with a shovel to death and was then called lazy by my employer,” wrote another.
