Frontier Developments has just rolled out a massive patch for Elite Dangerous Odyssey that brings new multiplayer content, new missions, new social spaces, and finally adds an emoji wheel to the space sci-fi MMO’s expansion.

Update 8 introduces the ability to form 4-player crews to man certain spacecraft such as the Alliance Crusader, Anaconda, Beluga, Federal Corvette, Imperial Cutter, Type9, and Type10. Players are also now able to board and explore the interior of Wells-Class Megaships and hang out in designated social spaces within it. They can also interact with each other using the new emotes from the emote wheel which includes the salute (a staple in space sci-fi games), wave, applaud, thumbs up, thumbs down, points, stop, and go. Definitely a big step up from the stand-crouch gesture that players have been using for ages.

New missions have also been added including new delivery and smuggling missions, and missions that will require players to meet and interact with various NPCs in settlements. They’ll also come across AI-controlled assassin and bounty hunter ships in some of the new missions. In addition, four new Engineers have been added to the Colonia region with new weapon and ship mods on offer.

Aside from new content, Update 8 also introduces several backend improvements that should result in a better overall on-foot experience. The base game, a.k.a. Horizons, has also been update with various improvements and fixes.
