Mortal Online 2’s Weekend Stress Test Didn’t Break World Records But Was Still A Success
Star Vault may not have succeeded in breaking the world record for the “highest recorded amount of players logged in to a single, uninstanced server” but it wasn’t all for naught. Despite sending out over 40k keys, concurrent players only peaked at only around 2,000 but the numbers were enough to unearth several server and performance issues which is basically the goal of a stress test.
The studio noticed bottlenecking when players first logged in to create characters as well as optimization issues when too many players hung out in one town. The good news is that the servers held up well under the strain. “[. . .] The bad part is, we still don’t know our cap in a real scenario on one node,” says Star Vault CEO Henrik Nyström. The devs are now aiming to push the servers even further by getting at least 5,000 players online in one node for the next stress test.

Thank you all for helping us push our server limits this weekend.
Our original plan was to invalidate the keys Monday, November 30th. However, due to the high volume of requests for more playtime, we have decided to add an additional 24 hours to the lifespan of the weekend keys! pic.twitter.com/kLMMCbvbQa— Mortal Online (@MortalOnline) November 30, 2020
