New World, Amazon Game Studios’ highly-awaited 17th century dark fantasy survival MMORPG, is officially live on Steam. This could very well be the biggest launch of the year as more than half a million players flock to the game within minutes of the servers coming online. SteamDB reports over 620,000 concurrent players online as of this writing and the numbers are still rising by the minute.

But popularity has its drawbacks and the servers are currently struggling to keep up with the massive influx of players. “Thank you everyone for the tremendous launch day support,” tweeted Amazon. “We are aware of the login queues and server issues, the team is working hard to get them addressed and get everyone in and playing! Thank you for your patience.”

Reviews on Steam are currently “Mixed” with most negative reviews focused on long queues, login problems, and lack of regional servers, especially in Southeast Asia.

Given the huge numbers we've seen in beta and the 620,000+ concurrent players online now, New World is easily the biggest MMORPG launch of the year.

You’ll find the official launch trailer below. See you in Aeternum!
