New World Talks About Factions In Their Latest Dev Blog

new world factions bannerPvP in New World has been a touchy subject for Amazon Game Studios since they made the decision to move away from a free-for-all full-loot system. But, the studio hopes to shed some light on how PvP will be going down in a recent developer blog that talks about the game’s factions.

“Factions are powerful organizations locked in the struggle to control Aeternum. After reaching a particular milestone during the early parts of your adventure, you must choose a side in this conflict. As you adventure, you will be introduced to these three Factions: the Marauders, the Syndicate, and the Covenant. Each Faction has a set of principles and a unique motivation for wanting control of Aeternum.”

The Marauders are a brutal militaristic faction whose goal is to establish a free nation where anyone strong enough will be able to prosper and profit. Thy Syndicate are a secretive group of intellectuals searching for forbidden knowledge that will help them usher in a new age of enlightenment. And lastly, the Covenant. They are a fanatical order that have taken it upon themselves to rid the land of heretics and defilers to restore justice.

Faction members can opt-in to PvP at any time to up the excitement but the ultimate goal is to help your faction acquire and control as much territory as possible. Players will also be able to accept both PvP and PvE faction missions. PvP missions increase a faction’s influence which helps in acquiring new territories. PvE missions, on the other hand, will reward players with faction currency that they can use to purchase faction-specific items and equipment.

“When we made the decision to remove always-on open-world full-loot PvP from New World, it was not a decision to remove Player vs. Player (PvP) combat from the game,” writes Amazon. “The three Factions form the spine of PvP gameplay in Aeternum. They create clear sides and motivations for conflict.”
