Inflexion Games has shared more information about what the multiplayer experience will be like in Nightingale in its latest dev blog. The team initially planned for the realm-hopping game to be an MMO but has since scaled it down to a shared-world multiplayer game where up to six players will be able to explore the Victorian fantasy multiverse together.

According to the dev blog, players will be able to invite their friends to join them on a realm or join either a private or public realm themselves once they’ve completed the tutorial and made their way to the Abeyance Realm. The player who created the server will also be able to choose whether to make the server private or make it publicly available once they’ve reached the starting realm.

It’s worth noting that players will be able to join public servers at any point after the tutorial and will be able to freely destroy existing structures or build new ones upon entering the server. Players will also be able to place Respite Cairns to designate a home realm that they can return to and play in at any time.

Players on the same realm can take on quests and battle monsters together, trade, and share in the spoils of their adventure. Encounters, however, are instanced but players will be able to simply drop items for others to pick up. Chests scattered throughout the realm can also be opened by anyone within it.

The team also notes that level restrictions won’t be imposed on any realm and encourages high-level players help lower-level ones. It doesn’t appear as if Nightingale will have open-world PvP, which is one less thing to worry about, especially if you tend to shy away from PvP-related activities.

Meanwhile, Nightingale is still on track for early access launch on February 22nd, so you’ve still got about two months or so before you can experience the game’s multiplayer for yourself.
