Nosgoth Will Be Shut Down On May 31st

nosgoth

Following a rough year in which it struggled to maintain an average of 1000 concurrent users, Square Enix Europe announced today that the Nosgoth will be coming to an end on May 31st. The reason for the shutdown is simple: "[...] ultimately its audience hasn’t grown enough to sustain ongoing operations."

Development has already ended, but new and existing players alike will be able to play until the game's official shutdown. All purchases made after March 1st are going to be automatically refunded.

I remember that, when the game was first announced, many Legacy of Kain fans were unhappy with it. While the game looked interesting enough, it wasn't a Legacy of Kain game, so much as it was an online humans vs vampires combat game set in the Legacy of Kain universe. Those who fall under this category will be happy to hear that "any future Legacy of Kain project will be considered independently of Nosgoth and on the merits of the proposals alone."

I found the game to be quite fun, but I was unable to stick with it in the long haul. However, given its unique nature, it's unfortunate that it had to end like this.
