PAX Australia 2021 has been cancelled due the recent spike of COVID-19 cases in the country. The in-person event was supposed to take place in Melbourne on October 8-10 has now been postponed to next year.

“At the start of the year, we were optimistic that we’d all be able to come together in person this October,” said Reedpop, the event’s organizer. “We’ve been working hard with our partners and exhibitors to deliver the best possible version of PAX Aus 2021, but due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 in Australia, the next edition of PAX Aus will now take place in 2022.”

In lieu of the cancelled event, PAX Australia Online will be returning for the second year to bring the gaming community together amid the ongoing pandemic. More information on the online event will be coming in the next few days. Reedpop will also be issuing full refunds to anyone who purchased PAX Australia 2021 tickets.

Most of Australia is currently on strict lockdown in an effort to control the spread of the more contagious Delta variant which has resulted in a surge of COVID cases since last month. Meanwhile, PAX West is still on track for September 3-6 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. Attendees will be required to present proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results before they’re allowed into the event.

More information can be found on PAX Australia’s official site.
