As promised during last weekend’s PC Gaming Show, Mainframe Industries has released a comprehensive FAQ for Pax Dei that’s packed with useful and interesting details about the upcoming medieval social sandbox MMO.

The lengthy post covers a broad range of topics including PvP and PvE gameplay, player housing, and how the team plans to monetize the game.

In terms of PvP, Mainframe Industries aims to create a blend of PvP and PvE experiences, offering opportunities for both playstyles to benefit each other. Players can choose to engage in the dangers of PvP or focus on creating top-tier gear for PvP encounters.

The team, however, assures that there will be designated safe areas free from PvP, providing players with options on how they wish to experience PvP and the risks they are willing to take. While the team failed to give specifics on looting rules, the FAQ does note that there will be a risk of losing value should you lose a PvP fight.

As for PvE, Mainframe says that NPCs won’t be handing out quests, providing fast travel, or engaging in trade. These aspects will primarily be facilitated by players in player towns. While quests will still exist in PvE, players will need to explore the world, follow clues, and rely less on traditional quest steps.

Players will also be able to construct houses but will only be able to build them within the safe zone known as the Heartlands. Placing housing plots near dungeon entrances or in the open world will not be permitted. The housing system will primarily utilize preset building items with limitations on size and structure. It will also include features such as access controls for players’ plots and an array of decorative furniture.

Players who are not logged in run the risk of losing their housing plots, although the studio intends to implement a grace period. PvP-specific buildings are planned for the future, separate from housing, allowing players to engage in open-world warfare with the risk of losing their structures.

On the controversial subject of monetization, it still remains an open question for Pax Dei, with Mainframe Industries emphasizing their commitment to getting it right. The studio says that the game’s player-driven economy will ultimately shape the chosen monetization model. The developers also maintain that there will be no integration of blockchain or NFTs of any kind within the game.

The FAQ also covers additional topics including information about the world map, the significance of day/night cycles in gathering resources and crafting, and how to sign-up for the alpha tests. Alpha invites will apparently be sent in waves so keep your fingers crossed. Conspicuously absent though is any mention of a release date or release window for the game.

You'll find the full FAQ on the Pax Dei official site.
