PUBG Wins PC Game of the Year, Zelda Takes Ultimate Game of the Year

At the Golden Joystick Awards, the world-famous game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds took home the PC Game of the Year title, as well as a number of Guinness World Records. Additionally, PUBG also took the Best Multiplayer Game of the Year award.

  • Fastest time to sell 1 Million Units for an Early Access Game
  • Fastest Early Access game to make a gross profit of $100M
  • First game to reach 2 million players playing at once on Steam
  • Most actively played Steam game
  • Most concurrent players for an Early Access game
  • Most concurrent players on Steam for a non-Valve game
  • First non-Valve game to be most played on Steam

This is different from the Ultimate Game of the Year award, which includes games from all platforms. That list included-

The Ultimate Game of the Year, for 2017, is Legend of Zelda; BotW.

Personal Thoughts

PUBG taking PC Game of the Year is, by all accounts, a completely deserved award. No game has managed to garner such a large playerbase, sell as many units, and build as large of a community, in such a short span on time, than PUBG did - especially when looking at the fact that PUBG technically isn't even out yet. Yet, the fact that an early access game got nominated for Ultimate Game of the Year award? It feels a bit wrong, personally speaking.

Though of the aforementioned games, I would have personally liked to see Persona 5 win, but it is not without its flaws. The Legend of Zelda fully deserves to win, and congratulations to every game that walked away with an award!
