PlayStation Now To Let You Stream PS4 Games To Your PC Later This Year

Sony announced today that PlayStation Now will be receiving a major update later this year that allows subscribers to stream PlayStation 4 games to a PC or PlayStation 4. None of the PlayStation 4 games that will be available on the service have been unveiled as of yet, but more details are set to be announced in the time leading up to the service's launch.

This is a fairly significant update, as, previously, subscribers could only stream PlayStation 3 games to a PC or PlayStation 4. As has been noted by those that commented on the announcement, the update could potentially allow users to play various PlayStation 4 games without even owning a PlayStation 4, granted they are willing to pay for the service.

It was also announced that PlayStation Now now makes use of cloud saves. Subscribers can now stream a game to one device, save to the cloud, and then pick up where they left off on another device, all without needing to download any of the games that they are playing via PlayStation Now.

For those that don't know, PlayStation Now is a subscription service that allows users to stream PlayStation 3 games for $20/month. At present, there are 483 PlayStation 3 games available on the service. Sony offers a 7-day free trial, during which time you can gauge how well the service will work with your internet connection. I've tried it out in the past and it works pretty well on my mid-tier internet connection, but there is definitely noticeable input delay, which is fairly unavoidable at this point.

Sony has stated that there will be "a private test" for active PlayStation Now subscribers sometime "in the next few weeks." Those that get invited will be notified via email sometime before the test begins. An official release date has yet to be announced.
