Spry Fox, the cozy game studio behind Cozy Grove and Road Not Taken, is ready to share its latest creation with the world—well, a small part of it, at least. The studio, now part of Netflix’s growing gaming division, has officially opened closed testing sign-ups for their new non-violent multiplayer project, codenamed Project Friendship. The game is described as a “cooperative village life sim,” and will begin testing on October 14th for Netflix subscribers on mobile devices.

The journey toward Project Friendship began back in 2021 when Spry Fox started hiring for a new MMO designed to foster connection and creativity. Then, in 2022, Netflix stepped in, acquiring the studio but reassuring fans that work would continue on the mysterious MMO, along with the sequel to Cozy Grove. Now, with closed tests on the horizon, we’re finally getting a glimpse of what this cozy, community-driven game is all about.

”Project Friendship is a cooperative village life sim set in a wistful, whimsical world designed to foster friendship through shared experiences and creative building mechanics,” the studio explains.

While Spry Fox is keeping some details under wraps, it’s clear that players will be able to engage in shared activities like playing music, dancing, and decorating communal spaces. The game is aimed at building a positive, supportive online community—no dungeon grinding or epic raids here, folks. Think Palia vibes, not World of Warcraft. Also, not to grasp at straws but the image header above was named ”spiritual crossing key art” which could either be the game’s actual title or a reference to its lore.

The current playtest will primarily focus on the solo experience, as Spry Fox admits their multiplayer systems still need a lot of development. “This is a rare opportunity to influence the direction of our multiplayer systems, so bring your imagination!” the studio teases in its FAQ.

If you’re feeling the urge to plant some virtual roots and make new in-game friends, now’s your chance! Head to the official Project Friendship sign-up page to join the tester pool. Just make sure you’ve got a Netflix account and a mobile device ready to go. Your new digital life awaits, assuming you make the cut of course.
