Bethesda Says It’s Not Giving Up On Redfall Citing Rocky Launches From The Past

Bethesda Softworks is in the spotlight once again following the launch of its single-player space RPG Starfield earlier this week. It’s not the good kind either as the community points out the game’s buggy launch and similarly bumpy launches in the past.

Bethesda Head of Publishing Pete Hines addressed player concerns in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. He also touched on Redfall’s disappointing launch and assures the community that they’re not giving up on the beleaguered vampire shooter.

“We don’t like failing to meet our players’ expectations. At the same time, we are the same company that has had launches that didn’t go the way we wanted, and we don’t quit or abandon stuff just because it didn’t start right,” Hines said. “Redfall is no different for us. Okay, we didn’t get the start we wanted, but it’s still a fun game… and we’re going to keep working on it.”

The Bethesda boss goes on to say that they’re currently working to get Redfall’s performance up to a crisp 60 fps and make it into “a good game” that Game Pass subscribers will still be playing ten years from now. He also noted how they’ve managed to turn things around and improve other titles like Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online, both of which also had rocky beginnings.

Meanwhile, the co-op vampire shooter continues to receive negative reviews on Steam and has seemingly fallen into maintenance mode. Developer Arkane Austin hasn’t released an update since June and it was a small hotfix at that. The game’s player count has also dropped considerably from its all-time peak concurrency of over 1,500 players at launch to an average daily peak of roughly 30 players.
