Rend Gives Players Their Own Plots Of Land, Overhauls Base Building System

rend seed building foundationYour faction base is one of, if not the most important structure in the survival sandbox world of Rend. However, while building the faction base is a collective effort, some members might not feel a bigger sense of ownership as veteran members of the faction, especially ones who hadn’t earned enough faction reputation to actually build something. Frostkeep Studios recently reworked their base-building system to allow players to own a plot of land that they can freely build on.

“In order for players to start piecing together their very own domicile, they first drop a seed into the ground, which will transform into a special foundation piece. Around the seed foundation is an invisible grid that players can place structure components within. The grid is limited in size at first, but can be upgraded later to expand the potential building zone for a player’s base.”

The purpose of the seed is to control the number of structures that a player can build and prevent half-built structures from littering the landscape. Players will get one seed to start, although the devs are still discussing the mechanics for acquiring a second, or maybe even a third seed.

Frostkeep has also streamlined construction in the game. Instead of constructing individual building pieces, players simply select a material, a structure component, then place the component on the grid. The required materials will automatically be consumed from the player’s inventory, assuming that they have enough materials of course. Head over to the Rend dev blog for more info.
