Revival Indefinitely On Hold

IllFonic announced yesterday that their highly ambitious sandbox MMORPG Revival is now indefinitely on hold. Adam "Snipehunter" Maxwell broke the news via the official forums. Simply put, the studio is out of resources that are necessary to continue. The exact nature of its cancellation is described in the quote below.

So, what went wrong? I suppose the mistake, if one is to be called out, came in the thought that we could soldier through on what we have available. It goes something like this: When we first set out to build Revival, we had access to expertise and resources that aren’t available today. Making up for their loss, be it as simple as lacking sufficient animators or as complicated as losing access to certain networking expertise, has been a costly affair, far more costly than we can honestly afford to bear. So, what does that mean? Is Revival completely dead?

It isn't specified what "resources" they had available to them when the project began that they do not now.

Maxwell notes that the "[Multiplayer Evolving Online World] incarnation" may still be worked on by him and another in the following statement.

As for Revival, what happens next for its MEOW incarnation is a bit up in the air. Ombwah and I, I think, are just going to keep working on it, so it’s ready. Who knows, maybe we can work together to bring you the world of Theleston in some other form.

Those who put money into the project will be able to keep what they own for "the foreseeable future." They will be given "visitation access" to all properties that they could not visit before, "including the estates." As a small bit of compensation, they will also be given keys for the studio's CryEngine rendition of the classic open source FPS Nexuiz and their Early Access PvPvE shooter, Moving Hazard.

Sales of in-game housing will end in the near future.
