Rust, Facepunch Studio’s multiplayer survival game, is infamous for its extremely challenging gameplay and full loot PvP mechanics that more often than not results in you being constantly murdered and losing your gear. Well, the developers have heard your pleas for mercy and have decided to add “softcore” servers for players who can’t quite cut it in the game’s hardcore vanilla servers.

“A major part of Rust has always been its hardcore, ruthless PvP and will continue to be. But we're aware that some players want a less brutal experience (sometimes, anyway).”

A total of 10 softcore servers will be available which will come with slightly different rules and mechanics aimed at more casual players. Players on these servers will be able to reclaim half of their inventory by either returning to the spot where they were killed (at the risk of again losing half of their items) or through Reclaim Terminals found in Bandit Town and the Outpost. Items in the terminals will permanently disappear after two hours.

Players will also be able to spawn in the Bandit Town and Outpost safezones as long as they’re not flagged as hostile. They will also only be able to view the contents/inventory of a wounded player. Maximum team size will also be restricted to four players including the number of players that can authorize at a Tool cupboard or Autoturret.

The latest update also adds Marketplaces with a drone delivery system. “The overall goal of the marketplace is to make trading safer and encourage more trading in general,” explains Facepunch. “This means the delivery drones cannot be destroyed or interfered with.” Of course, the service comes with a 20 scrap delivery fee. The new Marketplace is available on both hardcore and softcore servers.
