Digital Extremes Announces A New Action Fantasy Hybrid MMO Called Soulframe
Digital Extreme announced a brand new free-to-play fantasy hybrid MMO at this weekend’s TennoCon 2022 digital event, called Soulframe. For the upcoming game, the Canadian studio has moved away from the sci-fi acrobatic gameplay of Warframe for what looks to be a slower-paced medieval fantasy theme. Instead of ninja robots, you’ll be playing as a human, or at least a human-like race and instead of high-powered blasters you’ll be wielding swords and elemental magic.
“With Soulframe’s worldbuilding and thematic elements, we are really looking to go back to our childhood favorites and pull inspiration from the elaborate fantasy worlds that we fell in love with growing up,” said Soulframe Creative Director Geoff Crookes. “Our team is really interested in this idea of nature and humanity colliding and we'll be exploring a lot of those themes through our own lens while playing with ideas of restoration and exploration.”
“A totally new game in early development, Soulframe will deliver its own independent and uniquely immersive experience led by the creative and imaginative minds behind Warframe,” added the devs. “For early fans of Digital Extremes, the path to release will be a familiar one: it will be a transparent, collaborative and iterative process that is shaped by the passion of players and DE.”
There’s still no release date in sight but you can check out Soulframe’s first cinematic trailer below. You can also sign-up for upcoming playtests and reserve your account username on the official site. Note that you’ll have to complete a Cryptex-like mini-game before you get access to the website’s contents but it shouldn’t take too long to decode so I won't spoil the fun by giving you the answer.
