Square Enix releases are usually a pretty big deal in the gaming community. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to always be the case as their new multiplayer looter shooter Babylon’s Fall officially launches to a very disappointing turnout. SteamDB shows that peak player concurrency reached an all-time high of 1,188 players just a few hours after launch with less than 800 players online as of this writing.

The game’s poor reception is attributed to several factors, including its $59.99 buy-in price on top of in-game monetization, a “terrible cashgrab of a game,” as one Steam user put it. Reviews on Steam are “Mixed” with players complaining about poor optimization, mediocre graphics, and lack of customization options apart from purchasing premium cosmetics.

The good news is that both the developers and the players didn’t have to suffer through login queues and issues. A free demo is available on the Babylon’s Fall official site and on the PlayStation if you want to try it out. You’ll also get a free Season 1 Battle Pass should you decide to purchase the game.
