Square Enix and Platinum Games’ extremely disappointing multiplayer action RPG Babylon’s Fall is shutting down will be shutting down exactly a year since it first made landfall on PC and PlayStation. In preparation for its closure, the game has been yanked from all digital storefronts and premium currency purchase has been disabled as of today.

Its ongoing second season will still continue to run until the original end date of November 29th, at which point the final season will begin and will run until the servers are taken offline for good on February 27, 2023. All major updates have been cancelled although the team promises to kick off as many in-game events and promotions as possible before the servers go dark. The first of two Very Hard duels will also be opening in November featuring an incredibly powerful boss named Zenon, followed by compatriot Very Hard duel number two starring Ereshkigal in January.

Despite Babylon Fall’s poor reception, there’s apparently still a bunch of players who will mourn the game’s closure. “Through our surveys we received a great deal of enthusiastic messages of support alongside keen observations of issues and suggestions for improvement,” said Platinum Games. “This really made us feel that we were able to create the world of Babylon's Fall together with our players. Despite all of your support, we are truly sad and sorry to say that we will be unable to continue with the game's service. We hope you continue to enjoy playing Babylon's Fall until the service ends.”

The news isn’t entirely unexpected though since the game has been bombarded by negative reviews since it launched earlier this year due to its overall blandness and its microtransactions considering that you already had to shell out $60 just to get in.

Meanwhile, you have until 11pm on February 27th to enjoy the game before Platinum Games turns out the lights. There’s no word on whether Square Enix will be handing out refunds but they’ve already been doing so over the past few months so remaining players might still be able to get their money back.
