The Swords of Legends Online dev team addressed community concerns and questions about the upcoming Xianxia-inspired MMORPG in an AMA session on Reddit yesterday.

Most of the questions in the thread touched on the game’s monetization and whether Gameforge will be offering boost items, lockboxes, and other pay-for-convenience items. Basically, whether or not the game will be pay-to-win, to which the answer was no for all counts. The team assured the community that microtransactions will be limited to cosmetic items and a battle pass that will also offer purely cosmetic rewards.

“The original version over in China has managed to avoid that stigma for 3 years, with the devs repeatedly taking a firm stance against p2w,” said the devs. “We're hoping that track record to be a first re-assurance for players, next to us also repeatedly stating that we have no plans.”

The team also confirmed that Swords of Legends Online will come with several dungeons and raids at launch, specifically three leveling dungeons, five normal dungeons, and five hard difficulty dungeons. A 6-man raid will also be added soon after release as well as large-scale faction PvP and Guild vs Guild content sometime in Q4 2021. There will be no limit to how many times players can run dungeons or participate in PvP, although there will be daily and weekly caps on dungeon rewards while some PvP activities will only be available at certain times.

Finally, the team voiced their concerns about the name reservation issue and whether the servers will be able to cope with the demand on launch day.

“How the start of the name reservation went was a bit surprising to us, to be honest,” they admitted. “The login servers were much more stable at the start of Beta 1 and Beta 2 (although Beta 1 had some other tech issues that we could resolve for Beta 2). But we have been logging and reporting the errors to the devs so we can prevent this for launch. Launch being smooth is the highest priority to us.”

On the subject of launch, the servers are scheduled to go online on Friday, July 9 at 5am PDT barring any unexpected issues. “It's a sweetspot for us since our chinese partners are around still. Ultimately we'll announce if that changes with enough time due though!”
