Tarisland Is Removing Gender-Locking In Response To Closed Beta Feedback

Tencent offers a post-mortem report on Tarisland’s second closed beta test last month, revealing some of the adjustments that they’ll be making in response to player feedback. Apparently, one of the main complaints about the game is its gender-locked classes and the developers have promised to remove it entirely.

“[We] have decided to remove the gender lock for all the classes in future versions to meet player expectations and create a more pluralistic and encompassing game,” the studio said. “This process is going to be very exciting, but also complex and time-consuming. The development team needs time to ensure the animations and art style of characters meet our high requirement.”

It’s not all good news, however, as class armor sets will be made exclusively available through raids and will no longer be craftable going forward. By doing this, the team hopes to make them more valuable while also ensuring that raids drop meaningful rewards.

On the subject of rewards, Inscribed Stones will no longer be tradeable for energy and will be obtainable through in-game activities along with Gold Coins to address pay-to-win complaints. The community, however, remains doubtful that Tarisland will be completely free of pay-to-win elements.

Meanwhile, we’re now nearing the end of the year which gives Tencent just over three months to implement the said changes and any other improvements before the fantasy MMORPG’s Q1 2024 launch window.
