The Elder Scrolls Online Reveals Performance Improvement Roadmap For Update 24-26

Maintaining optimal game performance and ensuring that everything runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible should be one of the top priorities for developers especially for older games. At five years old, The Elder Scrolls Online is due for a much-needed cleanup and performance boost which is why Bethesda will be focusing on improving the fantasy MMORPG’s overall performance in the next few updates.

The official site has been update with a new dev blog outlining the studio’s improvement plans starting with Update 24, which will be coming out later this year, all the way up to Update 26, which is scheduled for Q2 2020 release.

Update 24 will feature a memory management overhaul, the first phase of behind-the-scenes combat ability improvements, and a complete rewrite of the Looking For Group system. Update 25, slated for Q1 2020, will introduce an overhauled Patching system, faster loading characters and fixtures, the first phase of frame rate improvements, the second phase of behind-the-scenes improvements, and optimized servers.

Lastly, Update 26 will split the character database into “active” and “inactive” accounts. Inactive accounts will be put into “Cold Storage” which should result in faster logins and character loading for active players. The final phase of frame rate improvements will also be implemented along with NPC and mob pathing tweaks, bug fixes, and other updates.

As always, the roadmap isn’t set in stone and will likely change as work continues on the updates. “As you can see, we have a huge amount of work ahead of us,” says the devs. “There’s a ton of stuff to do and as time progresses, you should expect that some of these items may change — especially the investigative tasks since we aren’t 100% sure what will be uncovered.”
