Cellars aren’t exactly known for being the happiest of places, in fact they’re usually where people get trapped and killed in horror movies. In MMORPGs, they’re usually dungeons chock full of loot and goodies guarded by some form of undead, demon, or monster. The new Dread Cellar dungeon coming to Elder Scrolls Online isn’t any different, except for the fact that it’s actually more of a prison rather than some dusty storage basement.

“Located in the hills of northern Blackwood, the Dread Cellar once served as one of the Empire’s most notorious prisons. Home to dissidents, rebels, and political prisoners, this secret location seldom released those sent to it, and rumors abound of the guard’s brutal treatment of their captives.”

The Dread Cellar is one of the two new dungeons coming to the game when the Waking Flame DLC rolls out next month. Players will be tasked with helping Martus Tullius, his apprentice Lucilla Caprenia, and the Imperial Legion’s battlemages investigate reports of mysterious magical disturbances in the abandoned prison which is now being occupied by a Dagonic cult called the Waking Flame.

Players will face off against three new bosses as they make their way deep into The Dread Cellar and will also have the chance to earn four unique item sets along with new achievements, titles, furnishings, and collectibles. They’ll also be rewarded with the new Scorion Pyreling pet just by entering the dungeon.

The Dread Cellar will be available in Normal and Veteran difficulties and a Veteran Hard Mode option for each of the dungeon’s three bosses.

The new dungeon will be arriving alongside the Red Petal Bastion dungeon when Waking Flame comes out on PC on August 23 and on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on August 31.
